P3 had our class trip to Oxford Island to help us explore our new topic 'Pondlife'. We started the day on the bus to the Oxford Island visitor center. We went to the education center to hear about what they do and Oxford Island and the kind of wildlife we might see there. We were then split into groups to go pond dipping and bird watching. During pond dipping we used nets to scoop from the pond and placed it a tray with pond water so we could observe what we had found. We found sticklebacks, water beetles, damsel nymphs and many more. During our bird watching we used binoculars and went out to the bird watching hut. We spotted swans, mallard ducks and gulls. We were able to enjoy our lunch together outside. After we got to use the amazing playground before it was time to return to the school.
